According to an article excerpt by Don Lindich, there are a few advantages of HD-DVD over Blu-Ray. They are:
1)Additional features such as mandatory pictures in picture decoders and web interactivity. Thus, it is possible to see behind the scenes pictures and commentary even when the main movie is unreeling. Fresh content can also be downloaded via an Ethernet web connection.
2)Web-Interactivity BD-Live is also not on any Blu-Ray Players as of now. However, such features were already present since HD-DVD was established.
3)Blu-ray features such as lossless compression and additional capacity does not hold well with Steven Kelly since, a slight difference in audio quality is hard to detect.
Steven Kelly believes that HD-DVD will triumph over Blu-Ray.

Technology News: Blu-Ray Vs HD-DVD
The end of this week is "Black Friday" and the watchful battle between Blu-Ray and HD-DVD. News report that sales on both sides have dropped to 10% below their expected sales.
Blu-ray has embarked on a two for one sale in which a total of 112 movies can be purchased at 50% off. This is expected to drive the sale of Blu-Ray discs up. Needless to say, revenues is expected to increase only if the less cost is compensated by an increase in volume.
Wal-mart is counter attacking by pricing HD-DVD below $200. Since, Wal-Mart is a super giant, sales are expected to soar. This happened with the sale of TV a previous year ago. If so, HD-DVD will clearly triumph Blu-Ray.
It all remains to be seen.

Personal DVD Player
Selecting a Personal DVD Player is a hard chore with many factors to consider and take note off. Some of these factors include:
1) Dimension and Weight
The bulk of DVD players weight lies in their rechargeable batteries. These batteries will add a few additional pounds to the overall weight of portable DVD Players. Their dimension is significant since having a large Portable DVD Player will impede you while you are on board a flight!
2) Monitor Resolution
DVDs are now recorded in 720 x 480 resolution. Hence, upscaling of images will be necessary if the DVD player has a higher resolution. Before selecting a DVD Player, it is essential that the DVD player resolution suit your needs.
3) Aspect Ratio
Aspect ratio is defined as the the width of the DVD player divided by its height. Two standardized ratios include 16:9 and 4:3. Care must be taken to ensure that your video settings (if there are any peripherals attached) match the DVD aspect ratio. If such a measure is not taken, the image could end up being 'squashed'.
4) Progressive Scan
In progressive scanning, lines in a frame are sequentially flashed in 1/60th second while in interlaced scanning, odd and even lines are displayed alternatively in 1/30th second. Thus, DVD player with progressive scan function hopes better picture without fickr.
5) Region Free
A region free DVD Player will play all NTSC and PAL video standards. This is because they are equipped with a converter that will change NTSC to PAL or vice versa. As such, disc from different regions around the world can be played.
